Appreciating wisdom
I’m taking a few days with my parents, 88 and 87
It’s not really a vacation. More like a visit to do some chores expected of a son. They needed some help and I’m here to provide it. 14 hrs on the road solo last Wednesday and I’ll make the return trip in a day or two.
We are sharing meals, looking through scrapbooks, complaining and laughing a lot. I am witnessing their 65+ year dance together and playing my role as a supporting cast member. Family is the tree that grew our sap, which sometimes leaks out of me uncontrolled. I understand the parts they all played and still play in both my addiction and my recovery.
Several of my first posts early this Spring weren’t seen by many of you, my growing readership. My four rescue dogs are also teachers in their unconditional ways. This essay outlines some of their many daily gifts. I hope you enjoy. I’ll be back to new work later this coming week. Meanwhile see if you can find the nuggets in this one. Thanks so much for reading.
