That was an awesome song!!! I saw them 3 times on the For Unlawfull tour. Eddie had a Makita drill all red and stripped like his guitar to open that song. Those guys were the archetype of cool!!! Gosh, I miss them!!!
An awesome recounting, Dee. There truly is nothing like the frequencies of music to connect us to times past. I know for a fact I wouldn't have made it this far- so sanely- without it!
Dude. Watching Petula Clark singing Downtown on the TV after my Mom told me to watch with her. I was singing it loud at a very young age. The Guess Who also has a sweet spot as my first concert - at Moody Coliseum.
My husband is a music guy too and he is often amazed at my inability to get/hear/piece together lyrics. It's weird, for some songs it's as if I can't make them out when he can. However almost every song you wrote about here I thought, "I love that song" so it's in there somewhere!
Jerry Garcia singing Mountains of the Moon always brings up memories. On The Way Home sung by Neil Young is a reminder that I’m not the only epileptic alcoholic out there.
Oh my goodness, so many (good) triggers! I hadn't thought of "Downtown" in a long time, but I loved that song at some point. There's just the right amount of melancholy in the melody, and then it moves smartly along.
Now I'm thinking about the opening guitar pick and horn crescendo of Earth, Wind, and Fire's hit, "September." If Maurice White had written a jingle for toilet paper and got the band to play it, I would buy that toilet paper. Lapse of reason indeed.
I drove cross-country from Washington State to NYC about the time Sting's solo "Englishman in New York" came out, and even though I came from 3,000 miles the other direction, that's part of my soundtrack of alienness from that time.
Fun post! I'll have to reread several times to give different songs their due.
That is so cool that you know that song from your life. And Maurice—OMG he could lift me up anytime he sang. I’m so glad the post moved you—thanks for playing along. Music is such a force ❤️
Put on any Van Halen song and I will be teleported to any time between 1978 to now. That band has been with me my entire cognitive life!!!
Fun article Dee!! I loved it!! 👍💪

Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood” does it for me anytime I”m depressed—turns me right around to happy.

So fun! Ear candy is the best sweet ever ❤️

Knowledge is not wisdom.
Wisdom is not truth.
Truth is not beauty.
Beauty is not love.
Love is not music.
Music is THE BEST.”

As far as just moving, dancing no matter what I’m doing, nothing will stop me if Marvin Gaye “Got to Give It Up,” comes on.
For me—Marvin sets the mood for some horizontal dancing

Beautiful Tess. And where does it transport you to?
The moment. Free from the neurosis of my mind. She is an artist that both calms me and helps me purge grief 🙏❤️🙏

I never find anyone who knows David Greys Babylon. Love that song.
😎 great song from 25 years ago. He sings about London but I was in SF 🤷🏻♂️
I actually never knew it was about London lol
As Paul Harvey used to say: “now you know the rest of the story” 😉
Yes, hands up for David Grey *and* Paul Harvey.
🖐️🤚

OMG do you remember trying to wind a busted tape back onto its reels? Scotch tape patches?
😂
Cool Jay! We all have them for sure. Enjoy your afternoon—sounds great!!
