Put on any Van Halen song and I will be teleported to any time between 1978 to now. That band has been with me my entire cognitive life!!!

Fun article Dee!! I loved it!! 👍💪

Pound cake is one of my all time favorites, even though Sammy Hagar was not my favorite lead singer of that band.

That was an awesome song!!! I saw them 3 times on the For Unlawfull tour. Eddie had a Makita drill all red and stripped like his guitar to open that song. Those guys were the archetype of cool!!! Gosh, I miss them!!!

That is so coo!! I love when I hear the sound of that drill.

Definitely miss a lot of those iconic 80’s bands 😊

An awesome recounting, Dee. There truly is nothing like the frequencies of music to connect us to times past. I know for a fact I wouldn't have made it this far- so sanely- without it!

Found it! Thanks Dee, this is amazing.

Perhaps a shame that I didn't get to the Limelight until the mid 1990's.

I may be a few years younger, but One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer is very high up, on my list of all-time favorites.

My true favorite album, which I didn't mention in my own tribute about music, is Appetite for Destruction.

I will never forget being 12 years old and having to replace the cassette multiple times because I played that album over and over again,.

Dude. Watching Petula Clark singing Downtown on the TV after my Mom told me to watch with her. I was singing it loud at a very young age. The Guess Who also has a sweet spot as my first concert - at Moody Coliseum.

My husband is a music guy too and he is often amazed at my inability to get/hear/piece together lyrics. It's weird, for some songs it's as if I can't make them out when he can. However almost every song you wrote about here I thought, "I love that song" so it's in there somewhere!

Jerry Garcia singing Mountains of the Moon always brings up memories. On The Way Home sung by Neil Young is a reminder that I’m not the only epileptic alcoholic out there.

Love your posts.

Thanks for this article, Dee! I play guitar and sing in a very Amateur Kinda way. I have the Guit out right now, playing songs by Tyler Childers, The Decemberists and Eddie Veddor on my back deck, as my boys enjoy enjoy a rare, warm March day in Rhode Island. You’ve inspired me to pinpoint songs through the years that I hold close. Enjoyed!

Oh my goodness, so many (good) triggers! I hadn't thought of "Downtown" in a long time, but I loved that song at some point. There's just the right amount of melancholy in the melody, and then it moves smartly along.

Now I'm thinking about the opening guitar pick and horn crescendo of Earth, Wind, and Fire's hit, "September." If Maurice White had written a jingle for toilet paper and got the band to play it, I would buy that toilet paper. Lapse of reason indeed.

I drove cross-country from Washington State to NYC about the time Sting's solo "Englishman in New York" came out, and even though I came from 3,000 miles the other direction, that's part of my soundtrack of alienness from that time.

Fun post! I'll have to reread several times to give different songs their due.

That is so cool that you know that song from your life. And Maurice—OMG he could lift me up anytime he sang. I’m so glad the post moved you—thanks for playing along. Music is such a force ❤️
