Fav line of this post is : quitting is the cover charge.

While I cannot find myself thinking that crashing our country is a good thing, I can say that when things fall apart, sober minds must prevail to rebuild in a new conscious way.

Hopefully, the people doing the crashing will soon be replaced by calmer more thoughtful minds.

It’s the greed, the conceit, and the disregard for humanity that are bitter actions for me to swallow these days.

I’ve been dialing up the volume on my kindness in my small world, hoping that others do the same.

Thanks for something new to consider about what might come out of this time of rending apart of country.

I’m hopeful too Teyani. Maybe not in the same way you are, but nonetheless. We can each hope and do small things in our lives to cope with the chaotic news 🙏

In my opinion -BRAVO!

Whether a Trump support or not, I think your assessment of the situation is spot on. I wholeheartedly agree with everything you had to say.

People don’t like change and they don’t like to be told that their behavior is wrong, or destructive to themselves or others, and I think your analogy is 100% correct.

You’re doing the Lord’s work, Dee. Nothing makes me happier than when people write notes about how long they’ve kept the demons at bay.

I've been sober several times in my life, not just dry but sober. Currently I'm over 51 months and counting. This is the best post I have read all week! Keep up the good work.

The principles of getting sober, i.e. radical change, are not easy but the rewards are priceless. You are right, our country has been on a bender and needs to sober up!

Buddy, this is an interesting thought experiment, but the reasoning needs work. I’ll practice sobriety by saving the red pen :)

Why not save the sharpie for executive orders instead?

One friendly rhetorical suggestion: while making an argument about sobriety as an economic metaphor, own it. "I'm no economist" is an unnecessary dodge. There's altogether too much of that kind of disclaimer these days, especially following strong opinions.

OK, back to being good.

OK point taken.

But back at ya, I’m not an economist. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am a sober guy so I definitely own that part. No disclaimer here on the rough journey I traveled to get here. That’s more of a foundational basis than a lot of the strong opinions I see here in the stack.

I agree with Jennifer BRAVO Dee! 👏

Never trust a politician.

“ Today’s bald-faced hypocrisy is put to shame by the sheer audacity of their excessive and addictive spending. A ruling class that is hell-bent on getting and keeping their next fix”

.. would take me a week or ten - at least - to even begin to consider.. much less attempt to ‘decode the ‘out of your league’ conceits & your complete ignorance & apathy re ‘collateral damage’ (commonly ‘known’ as people) but so glad I’m Glad .. you had yourself ‘such fun writing it..

It does appear that ‘Lived Altruism has no place in your seemingly sneering & superior ‘vision from the pulpit of sobriety while armed with 20/20 calibre ‘HindSight.. When & where did your ‘self awarded talent & wisdom as mystic evangel ‘crusader & smartest guy in the room’ kick in ?

No apologies re ‘being blunt & even rude’ .. it’s hard earned & deserving in my particular case & dotage.. but I tend to follow Exemplars in Their Fields of Endeavour .. & neither You nor Myself ‘made the cut’ - as Exemplars.. & am pretty damn clear on the matter eh .. But ‘hope springs eternal.. - non ? 🏴‍☠️🦎🚧
